Let's Get Beastly

Are you ready for BeastFeast? Five Chefs. Five Dishes. Craft Beer. Two Desserts. Live DJ. Live Art. Live Everything!

Atlanta is offering  the most must attend events all month long.  I always enjoy going to events held at SweeWater. Big space, people watching and of course beer flowing all day long. This year AllWays Open Creative and SweetWater Brewery are hosting a culinary extravaganza unlike anything Atlanta has ever witnessed called The Beast Feast on Thursday, October 18th, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Atlanta’s finest, most eccentric and eerily talented culinary geniuses will demonstrate how “beastly” they are in their restaurants via extraordinary fashion.  Featuring five heralded executive chefs who are responsible for creating a dish to pair with SweetWater’s revered line of craft brews. They are:

Mike LaSage: Executive Chef, P'Cheen/Co-Owner, Chef, Bone Lick BBQ

Joey Ahn: Executive Chef, SOHO
Edward Russell: Executive Chef, Parish

Jared Lee Pyles: Opening Villains in Old Fourth Ward

Matt Deckard: Executive Chef, Deckard's Tavern and Tappan Street

To embrace Halloween spirit, AllWays Open will transform each chef into a BEAST through various digital art platforms. Once finished, these works of art will premiere at one of the most anticipated dining events of the year. Each participant of this quintet will create an exclusive dish for the limited VIP tickets ($39.99, which also includes all custom desserts and gift bags).

Another Beast—SweetWater Head Brewer Nick Nock—will be filling SweetWater pint glasses with his crafted ales which will be strategically paired with the five chefs’ dishes. Not a beer drinker? Wine tastings of co-sponsor Piccolo Tesoro Rose Moscato will be poured throughout the night!

For dessert, East Atlanta’s revered OMG Cup and Cakes and local gourmet ice cream makers and High Road Craft, will be making extraordinary treats using SweetWater’s beer and award-winning Picolo Tessuro Moscato as well.

Sam Flax will be sponsoring paint, canvases, and easels for live art created by three revered Atlanta artists—Michi Meko, Eric Nine, Jeremy Ray —plus an exhibit by eccentric sculptor Shawn Knight. DJ Kemit will make you body move by spinning on the ones and twos, and many more surprises in store. So sit for a spell and have a brew.

Corn-mazing Me Crazy

Atlanta is more than just side walks and city street lights. There are many activities happening during the season of harvest such as scouting for your favorite pumpkin, riding haunted hayrides, or getting lost in a man-made maze. Listed are my top farms to visit from metro Atlanta to the Deep South.

Southern Belle Farm

Do you enjoy picking and painting pumpkins? The Southern Belle Farm offers just that. You get to choose your own pumpkin and they provide tools where you can paint and carve it on site.  While waiting for your take home pumpkin to dry, the farm offers many fun activities. Southern Belle Farm also grows cotton and allows you to pick it. There are pedal carts, cow trains, campfires and even pig races! On site they have Mimi’s Kitchen which offers many fried foods for you to try. What’s the South without offering some fried pickles while searching for the perfect pumpkin? Don’t forget to stop by the Country Market where you will find sweet treats, farm-themed novelties and seasonal décor.

Located in Dawsonville, Uncle Shuck’s gives you the Pumpkin Patch experience of a lifetime. Enjoy hayrides and bonfires, explore the haunted corn maze, shoot corn cannons and walk with goats. The hayride ends at a cozy bonfire where you will roast marshmallows and have sing-a-longs. Uncle Shuck’s is open for your enjoyment every weekend for the months of October and November. I enjoy getting scared to death and am so glad they have a haunted maze. The haunt night maze will guarantee you a spooktacular good time. Poppell Farms Corn Maze

Poppell Family farm is located in Odum about 6 miles from Jesusp in the outskirts of Savannah, GA and includes 10 acres of labyrinth and a haunted forest. The Haunted Woods” will be open with lots of spooks lurking nearby as you travel down this twisted path of terror. Poppell also feature hayrides, steer roping, crop hopper catfish farm and so much more.

During the grand opening on October 6th, Poppell will feature A-Maze-ing Race 5K and Pumpkin Patch Trot to benefit the Boys and Girls Club. Popell probably features the most interesting corn maze I have come upon. Don’t fret if you get lost. If you plan on visiting on a Monday through Friday you can take part of what they call “Maze Text”. As you enter the corn maze you will have the opportunity to choose a subject – Corn Clues, Bible Clues, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts Clues, or Fun Clues. You can text or scan the corresponding phone number and continue to receive instructions while maneuvering your way through the maze. It’s not like you won’t be texting your way through there anyway. So bring your cell and or smart phone and Happy Texting!!
